Lupin provides a full service. From collaborating with outstanding designers and landscapers to producing drawings, exquisite planting plans and hard landscaping, we cover every aspect — right down to delivering appropriate, considered and beautiful planting. Once your new garden is complete, we offer flexible maintenance and aftercare services to keep the space looking its best and ensure new plants thrive.
Lupin has extensive experience of designing and developing all types of outdoor spaces, from large and established gardens to small city courtyards. We incorporate our customers’ requirements – always taking into account practical and budgetary concerns, alongside aesthetic considerations during the design process. Beautiful hand-drawn designs are presented for customer discussion and approval, and then used by landscapers for the next stage in the process.
Case Study - A new terrace for a period property
This beautiful property in Edgbaston already had a large and established garden. However, the owner wanted to update the terrace area nearest the house to create a space where she could relax and entertain. The plan, devised by our partner designer Gardenplan Design, ensured that the new terrace area blended seamlessly with the period property, and still felt contemporary and inviting. The terrace and planting areas were built from mixed-sized sandstone with a stone set detail around the planting beds.
These beds were used to break up the space, and to hold evergreen structure that would provide interest from within the house, even in the winter months. The terrace was designed to feel enclosed and enveloped by planting – a snug and secluded spot within the larger garden.
The customer had clear plant preferences, and requested topiary as structural elements, and a specific palette of purples, whites, magentas and apricots, which we were happy to include. Herbaceous planting brings colour and interest all year round. The result is a serene and beautiful space – private and pretty, perfect for contemplation or for a party.
We continue to maintain this garden on a regular basis – to perform seasonally appropriate work, ensure that all plants are in good health and to keep the areas immaculate.
‘I am delighted with the way in which Lupin interpreted my brief for the planting of my new patio area. I discussed colour and types of flowers and plants that I enjoy, and Julia created exactly what I could have hoped for. She helped transform what had been quite a tired patio area into a delightful garden teaming with pollinators and flowering plants from spring until late autumn. It is a source of joy all year round.’

Frequently Asked Questions
What geographical areas do you cover?
For project work – design, landscaping and planting – we travel to most areas in and around Birmingham, especially those on the south side. Lupin is happy to consider work in the outlying areas too, on a case by case basis.
How much does it cost to create garden design plans?
We work with our design partner, Melanie Smith from Gardenplan Design, who will visit you to discuss your requirements, and then be able to advise of garden design charges (starting price of £500 for a small project, increasing incrementally depending on the size and level of complexity). Charges will normally cover the measuring and survey of the garden, and the production of a scaled plan drawing, based on your brief. A further meeting will then be arranged to discuss the proposal. A firm quotation will be obtained from the appointed landscaper, once the plan is approved.
How much will garden construction cost?
Remodelling a garden is often a big investment, similar to a major refurbishment of a house. Many similar skills and trades are required in a garden and the costs will be spread between the designer, landscaper and plants-people. Some small re-modelling projects will cost less than £10,000 while large refurbishment project costs will be a lot higher.
Do you offer design project services to commercial businesses?
No. We only work for private, domestic and residential customers.
Do you charge for completing a home visit?
All our initial consultations are free. Following that, we charge £29.50 + VAT (Lupin) or £30 + VAT (Gardenplan Design) per hour.
How can I schedule an appointment or get a quote?
For all new customer enquiries, we will need to see your garden and meet with you to discuss your requirements. You can call us to make an appointment, or send on online enquiry via our contact page.
